VRV
VRV is a product that collects fandom based entertainment into one convenient spot. Brands like Crunchyroll, Rooster Teeth, Nick Splat, HiDive, Cartoon Hangover, Shudder, and more. It’s the best place to go for Anime, Animation, Horror, and a ton of other types of content.
My Role as Web Lead
I was originally hired as a Sr. Product Designer to build out VRV’s responsive web presence. When I joined there was already a launch date scheduled so in order to meet deadlines I immediately got to work on a pattern library and documenting all of the components I was building and using. My work on the pattern library allowed me to move quickly. The pattern library was so well received that it effected the design of both the Living Room and Mobile platforms going forward.
I was able to build out the entire website including complicated systems like subscriptions and payments, video player, commenting, icon systems (drawing icons is really fun), and typography rules and ship on time only a couple months after I was hired.
Eventually we acquired a company in Eastern Europe and I worked with another designer to refine and iterate the design over the next several years. Eventually we hired a second web designer to replace me as I was promoted to Principal Product Designer.
My Role as Principal Product Designer
In December 2017 I was promoted to Principal Product Designer and am now responsible for reviewing, critiquing, and approving all designs from each platform (Web, Mobile, and Living Room) for both our San Francisco and Eastern European offices, and assuring that they are all moving in the same direction. I also continue to do Lead responsibilities on our Web initiatives.
Through these efforts I’ve been able to align the three platforms much better than had been previously possible. Assuring our users get a consistent experience regardless of where they watch.
